Module 4 · Lesson 2 of 4
The Broken Record
When someone pushes past your boundary, you don't need new arguments — you need one calm sentence, repeated kindly.
Here's what usually happens when you set a boundary: the other person pushes — “Oh come on, just this once” — and suddenly you're in a debate you never agreed to, inventing new reasons on the spot, getting flustered, and caving just to end the conversation.
The fix is almost embarrassingly simple. You pick ONE calm sentence, and you repeat it — kindly, word for word — every time they push. “I understand, and I still need Saturday free.” Push: “I understand, and I still need Saturday free.” Push again: same sentence, same warm tone.
It works because you're not giving them new material to argue with. There's nothing to grab onto. Most people stop pushing after the second or third repeat — not because you overpowered them, but because you were a calm wall instead of a swinging door. Practice it in the mirror once today so it's ready when you need it.
Your Now-Step
Stand in front of a mirror once today and practice: “I understand, and I still need...” Say it like you mean it, because you do.
A moment to reflect
Whose voice have you been quieting to keep the peace — and what's one thing it wants to say?
Private — these notes never leave your device.
“Move forward.”
